Is it Rational to Beat Yourself Up?

The daily grind, things going wrong, life not living up to your expectations. Feelings of emptiness, looking back with regrets, with plenty of could of, and should of thoughts dominating your self-perceptions. Does this seem familiar? Is this benefiting anyone who goes through those mental processes?

Clearly, it doesn’t benefit anyone. So why do people continually beat themselves up? If there’s no rationality behind those thoughts, it can seem quite ludicrous to be thinking in that way. But when an individual steps back to assess those thoughts, they’ll realise that it just makes life worse than it needs to be.

If anyone has to battle throughout the day with thoughts that make them bloated with a load of negative associations about themselves, it can become a part of that person’s personality. In effect, it has become a habit. As we all know, habits can be broken when challenged.

Our low self-esteem hypnotherapy in Southend on Sea packages, are there to challenge those negative aspects of the self. We look into why a client has such thoughts in the first place, then assess how those mental habits can be broken.

The bottom line is, would anyone who does beat themselves up, treat other people like they’re treating themselves? Nine times out of ten the answer to that question is no.

There are a multitude of ways to counteract a mindset that is engaging in habitual negativity towards the self. Here’s a list of things that can help anyone regain control. This can help give a person some relief from the daily onslaughts of beating themselves up.

  1. Love yourself.
  2. Be positive.
  3. Engage with relaxation techniques to keep calm.
  4. Be aware when a negative thought arises, and counteract that thought with a positive thought.
  5. Autosuggestions (explain about that later).
  6. Free yourself from negative people who drag you down.

Some of you out there might cringe at that list of six things that enable a person to be free from beating themselves up. However, if there are elements of anyone who does cringe, it’s probably a program in their mind stopping them from even bothering to contemplate change.

Let’s explain each idea given to enable a person to move forward in the right direction: 1. Self-love is the first vital component in a person’s journey to overcome those negative tendencies. Normally when a person doesn’t like themselves very much, it can come from a multitude of different situations. But what’s vital is, to start the journey, to be more self-loving. Start each morning by sitting down comfortably and close your eyes. Then say to yourself as you breath in slowly, ‘I am,’ then as you breathe out, say the word ‘happy.’ Then, on the following in breath, once again say ‘I am’, on the outbreath say the word ‘joy.’ Keep repeating the cycle of breathing in and breathing out for around ten to fifteen minutes, saying ‘I am happy,’ ‘I am joy,’ as described. Have positive emotions when saying ‘I am happy’ and ‘I am joy.’ Do this for a few weeks once or twice a day, and see how you feel. If it works, make it your daily thing to do.

2. Be positive: Start engaging with positive mindset material. There’s plenty of books out there that can help you achieve that objective. These books can reinforce what you’re trying to achieve, providing insights and a better sense of self.

3. On the self-love section, I have given a perfectly good relaxation technique for anyone to use. A person can also close their eyes and visualise themselves in a relaxing place, it could be real or imagined, it doesn’t matter (whilst slowing down the breath). Do that for around five to ten minutes, it will help keep anyone calm (you can even add autosuggestions to the imagery too).

4. Being self-aware takes practice. When a negative image or thought pops up into an individual’s mind, it’s being able to step back and have control over that thought or image. With dedication, a person will, over a period of time, be able to counteract that negativity with positive thoughts and images.

5. Autosuggestion has been explained in the self-love answer. You can do this to influence the sub-conscious mind, with your eyes closed following the breath. Or, alternatively, anyone can do it, when going about their daily business. A person can use whatever words they find suitable. Just constantly saying to yourself ‘I am positive’ or ‘I am confident’ (as a couple of examples). It’s always important to remember about having the right emotions within to achieve what’s desired though.

6. If anyone keeps beating themselves up, having the wrong people around them will only make matters worse. Unfortunately, there are people out there who feed off of those who are their own worse enemy. If a person is surrounded by people like that, like I was, it’s time to walk away to pastures new.

To be free from being harsh on themselves, individuals will need an element of self-confidence. Why? Because if a person is confident in their own skin, then they won’t beat themselves up, it’s a simple as that. Our self-confidence hypnotherapy in Southend on Sea packages, are there to create positive change for each person. With a new found you, comes a new found life.
